Israel Military Constructing New Land Crossing for Gaza Aid
A new land crossing from Israel to northern Gaza is being built by the Israeli military, as announced on Thursday. According to the Israeli military, the new northern crossing will facilitate the direct flow of aid to civilians in areas that have been difficult for trucks to reach.
A lack of aid has led to a humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza, with the UN and other agencies reporting an imminent famine.
On Wednesday night, Yoav Gallant, the Israeli Defense Minister, revealed that Israel was planning to flood Gaza with aid, as the US is mounting pressure to increase humanitarian aid. The Israeli agency responsible for coordinating aid deliveries to Gaza, COGAT, has reported that the number of trucks entering the area daily has doubled from last week. Despite the UN agency for Palestinian affairs, there has been no rise in aid arrivals in Gaza.
