In a heartfelt response to the tragic stabbing incident at a Sydney shopping centre, Prince William and Kate Middleton have issued a statement expressing their deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims and their families.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took to their official social media accounts to share their thoughts on the harrowing event that left six people dead and several others injured.

“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible events in Sydney earlier today,” they wrote. "Our thoughts are with all those affected, including the loved ones of those lost and the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others. W & C."

The attack, which occurred on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Westfield shopping centre in Bondi Junction, Sydney, has sent shockwaves through the community and beyond.

The assailant, armed with a knife, was shot dead by police after a critical situation was declared and the shopping centre was closed down.

The royal couple’s statement comes at a particularly poignant time, as it is Kate’s first public comment since her cancer diagnosis was announced last month.

The Duke and Duchess have been known for their compassionate outreach and support for those in need, and this statement reaffirms their commitment to such causes.

The incident has also drawn comments from other members of the Royal Family. King Charles expressed his horror at the news, stating,

“My wife and I were utterly shocked and horrified to hear of the tragic stabbing incident in Bondi.” He extended his deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims and praised the bravery of the first responders and emergency services involved in the incident.

The community and leaders around the world have rallied in support of the victims, with many taking to social media to offer condolences and support.

The New South Wales Police Force has confirmed the death toll and is continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
