Former American president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday said Greg Abbott Texas governor is "absolutely" on the shortlist for vice president.

Sean Hannity Fox News host asked Whether Abbott was under consideration for vice president during a joint interview between the two men.

To which Trump responded that Abbott is “a spectacular man” and he was honored when Abbott endorsed him for president last year.

“And he’s done a great job,” Trump said. “Yeah, certainly he would be somebody that I would very much consider.”

“So he’s on the list?” Hannity asked.

“Absolutely, he is," Trump added.

The host further asked the former president if there was anyone else on the shortlist, and Trump mentioned Republican Senator Tim Scott, from South Carolina who was recently an opponent in the GOP primary for president. Scott has since endorsed Trump, and Trump described him as an “unbelievable” campaign surrogate.

Donald Trump gave the governor a crucial endorsement when he contested the primaries for reelection in 2022, and Abbott also showing his support for Trump appeared at a Trump rally in the Houston area weeks before the primary, which the governor easily won.

Abbott and Trump share the same opinion when it comes to the issue of immigration and illegal immigrants,

The governor is known for his aggressive policies related to the border and immigration.

In a measure to strengthen the state policies and discipline, Abbott directed the Texas state government to use state funds to build border barriers, continuing one of Trump’s hard-held policies.

Abbott has spent billions of dollars and funds allocated to his state on border enforcement, enlisting the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety troopers to police the region.

He has also spent millions of dollars busing migrants to cities led by Democrats. And he’s confronted the Biden administration’s border authority by blocking Border Patrol access to a boat ramp in a public park along the Rio Grande.

Trump and Abbott on Thursday called out Joe Biden's handling of immigration, praising Abbott’s border security efforts.

The former American president continually praised Abbott’s deployment of concertina wire along the Rio Grande and efforts to arrest migrants who cross the border illegally.

"He really stepped it up," Trump said concerning Abbott. "It's been amazing."

The two political figures spent Thursday together, happily touring Texas’ border with Mexico in Eagle Pass and discussing Abbott’s border security efforts. During his brief address to reporters afterward, Trump praised Abbott.

“This is an incredible operation,” Trump said.

U.S. President Joe Biden was also present at the Texas-Mexico border on Thursday from Brownsville, he also called out Trump and asked him to push Congress to pass significant immigration legislation, he also said he and Trump should work together.

Democrats have however blatantly spoke against Abbott’s border policies as political opportunism that dehumanizes migrants and wastes state resources that could be better spent on other priorities.
