Kate Middleton will stay out of the spotlight indefinitely while she continues her cancer treatment, a palace insider has claimed.

The Princess of Wales made a quick return to public life last weekend for the men's Wimbledon final - accompanied by her nine-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte - where she presented the singles trophy to Carlos Alcaraz.

The 42-year-old made his first return to public service in June with Trooping the Color. As part of the event, she took to the famous balcony at Buckingham Palace with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, King Charles and Queen Camilla. Following her appearance, Kate admitted on social media that although she is "making good progress" she is "not out of the woods yet".

Additionally, Robert Jobson, author of the upcoming book Catherine, Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen, explained to PEOPLE why Kate is stepping back from the role until further notice.

In addition, her recent travels "show a lot of courage and fortitude, because she knows that the whole world is watching her."

He said: “Before, she lived according to the calendar, but now she lives her life, as the calendar comes later.” You'll come back, but when you have an experience like this, it changes your perspective and the order of things.

A palace insider also told Vanity Fair that Kate and her family will likely spend most of the summer “holed up” at their country home at Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

They added that Wales will not travel abroad due to Kate's cancer treatment, but is expected to visit King Charles and Queen Camilla in Scotland next month. Another source also shared with People:

"She doesn't need to stand out. Being with her family and being herself will give her more energy." "We will have plenty of time to focus on his recovery."
