Kate Middleton’s Cancer Announcement Video ‘Took a Lot’ as She’s a Very Shy Person

Windsor, UK – In a heartfelt video message released on Wednesday, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, bravely shared her health update with the world.

The announcement came as a shock to many, given Kate’s inherently shy nature and her preference for privacy. In January, Kate underwent major abdominal surgery in London. Initially, medical professionals believed her condition was non-cancerous.

However, post-operation tests revealed that cancer had been present.

Her medical team swiftly advised a course of preventative chemotherapy, and Kate is now in the early stages of this treatment. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith tells PEOPLE that Princess Kate, 42, was "sincere, dignified, poised, and she was forthright" in her delivery, but the announcement likely wasn't easy. "She is inherently shy, and for her to do that took a lot," Bedell Smith adds. "When she ended with 'You are not alone,' it rang a bell with something that Queen Elizabeth would have said," Bedell Smith explains. "It was very similar to what Queen Elizabeth said during COVID when she said, 'We are all in this together.' " "She was mindful there are very few people who read about that or watched that who doesn’t know someone who has cancer.

She was mindful of that," the journalist and biographer continues. "It was a way of reassuring people not only about her condition but helping them have courage." "There was not a trace of self-pity. She projected honesty," Bedell Smith says. "It was the right balance." The Princess of Wales expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support during her recovery.

“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family,” she said. “But I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me.” Kate and her husband, Prince William, have navigated this challenging journey privately, shielding their young family from unnecessary stress.

“We’ve been doing everything we can to process and manage this,” Kate shared. “As you can imagine, it has taken time.” The couple has focused on explaining the situation to their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, in an age-appropriate manner.

Kate assured them that she is getting stronger every day, both physically and mentally. Having Prince William by her side has been a source of comfort for Kate. The love and kindness shown by well-wishers worldwide have touched the royal couple deeply. “It means so much to us both,” Kate acknowledged. Kate’s message also extended to others facing cancer. “For everyone dealing with this disease,” she said, “please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.” Her words resonate with countless individuals who find themselves on similar paths. While Kate’s work has always brought her joy, she recognizes the need for time, space, and privacy during her treatment.

“I look forward to being back when I am able,” she stated. “But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.” As the world rallies behind Kate Middleton, her courage and vulnerability serve as a reminder that even those in the public eye face personal battles. We wish her strength, healing, and continued support from all corners of the globe.
