Taylor Swift fans defend Travis Kelce after texting video goes viral
Taylor Swift fans have come to the defence of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, after a video of him texting during her Eras Tour concert in Singapore sparked criticism online.
The clip, which was posted by a fan on X (formerly Twitter), showed the NFL star looking at his phone while Swift was performing "Blank Space" on stage.
The fan who filmed the video seemingly shaded Kelce, sarcastically writing, "It's giving supportive bf", atop the clip.
When the Swifties caught wind of what the concertgoer was trying to imply, they stood up for him, pointing out that he had been attending several of her shows around the world and cheering her on.
They also suggested that he might have been texting for a valid reason, such as checking on his family or friends, or dealing with an emergency.
Some fans even shared their own photos and videos of Kelce dancing and singing along to Swift's songs at the same concert, proving that he was not bored or distracted by his phone the whole time.
One fan wrote: "He literally flew to Singapore to be with her, he's been to so many of her shows, he's always supporting her, he's allowed to check his phone for a few seconds, y'all are so quick to judge."
Another fan said: "Maybe he was texting his mom or his teammates or something important, you don't know his life, stop being so rude and let them be happy."
A third fan added: "He was having the time of his life at the concert, I saw him dancing and singing, he's the best boyfriend ever, leave him alone."
Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been dating Swift since summer 2023, after he made a "metal as hell" move by trying to give her his number at her concert in Kansas City.
The couple have been open about their relationship, which Swift described as "public" in her December Person of the Year cover story for TIME¹.
She said: "When you say a relationship is public, that means I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone. And we're just proud of each other."
Kelce has been following Swift on her Eras Tour, which features songs from all 11 of her albums. He has joined her in countries such as Argentina, Australia, and Singapore.
He has also brought along a copy of her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, which is set to be released on April 19.
Swift has also supported Kelce's football career, attending many of his games this past season, including the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs won their second consecutive championship.
The couple have shared several public displays of affection, such as post-concert kisses and their on-field embrace after the Super Bowl.
Swift also referenced Kelce as "the guy on the Chiefs" in her song "Karma" during her Singapore show on Friday.
Kelce had the perfect reaction to the name-drop, as he was seen smiling and pointing at himself in a video captured by a fan.
